Where are you from?
I'm from Montreal, Canada
When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing after leaving New York City in 2003. I signed up for some creative writing classes at a local university and received some positive feedback from my classmates which gave me the courage and confidence to write the first draft of J'Adore New York. I must also confess to having a life altering encounter with a psychic on the streets of Manhattan who told me that I was missing my calling as writer. It took me some time to take this advice seriously, but now that J'Adore New York is being published in several countries, I realize this was absolutely true and I haven't looked back since.
Tell us your latest news?
My novel was published in Canada and Germany last year and will be released in the United States next fall; I am absolutely thrilled.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
After the completion of the first draft of my manuscript. Sitting down to write a novel is extremely demanding and, in my mind, anyone who goes through this process is a writer.
What inspired you to write your first book?
Reading novels about other exciting work environments such as The Devil Wears Prada and The Nanny Diaries. I wanted to write something entertaining about my own work environment; the legal profession.
What is your writing style?
In the first person, direct and to the point with a touch of humour and sarcasm.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
J'Adore New York is a call for introspection and the need to reevaluate one's values in the face of excessive consumerism and society's obsession with money and power.
How much of the book is realistic?
I would say most of it. I've added a plot twist that might appear a tad unrealistic to some readers but I think it adds lots of excitement to the story!
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Yes, the story was inspired by my own move to New York City back in 1999.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Candace Bushnell. I love the way she portrays women; their strengths, their careers, their relationships and their closets!
What book are you reading now?
Room by Emma Donoghue, it's totally awesome.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I am curious about Amanda Hocking, the popular star of the self publishing world. I understand she has a book series being released by a traditional publisher and I'm looking forward to reading it.
What are your current projects?
I am currently writing the sequel to J'Adore New York.
Do you see writing as a career?
Absolutely. I am working on a three book series and I hope to commence a book for young adults afterwards.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
The sequel to J'Adore New York will take place in the City of Light!
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Finding exciting plot twits that will keep readers turning the pages and on the edge of their seats.
Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
I've just returned home from a two week research trip to Paris. I was fortunate to be there during Paris Fashion Week and it was truly an amazing treat for the senses!
Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
Hard work, persistence and following your instincts always pays off.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
If writing is your true passion, then follow your dreams, be persistent and most of all, be very patient with yourself. It takes years to hone your craft.
