Lessons from Madame Chic: The Top 20 Things I Learned While Living in Paris is a bestseller on Amazon.com!
What inspired you to write your book?
Living as a foreign exchange student in Paris changed my life in very profound ways. I learned a new way of living and wanted to share that way with other people that were hungry for a more elegant, refined life.
How did you come up with the title?
‘Madame Chic’ is the pseudonym for my host mother while I was living in Paris. Each chapter in the book represents a lesson I learned while living in Paris.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
That life is meant to be lived exquisitely, that no moment should be wasted. I want everyone that reads my book to not just exist, but thrive.
What books have most influenced your life most?
Peter Mayle’s “A Year in Provence” and Ernest Hemingway’s “A Moveable Feast” really inspired me to travel to France. I became intrigued with the country.
What are your current projects?
My next book is a mystery called “Divina Wright and the Case of the Missing Rubies”. It is the first in a series and will be released in 2012.
Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
I am a member of The LA Writer’s Lab, which is a wonderful community of talented writers of all genres. It’s great to have a support group of fellow writers as writing can be a lonely endeavor.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I am a huge mystery buff so Agatha Christie is my favorite mystery author (I love Hercule Poirot!) and Alexander McCall Smith is my favorite living author. I’ve read almost every series he’s done- my favorite being The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. His work appears simplistic but has deep philosophical meanings. He is just a brilliant writer.
Who designed the covers?
My talented sister, Leslie Kahle, designed the cover of Lessons from Madame Chic.
Raising a newborn baby at the same time! I didn’t get very much sleep in those days. But when you are a writer, you never take time off. Not even maternity leave :)
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Write every single day. Without exception. And learn how to spot resistance.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I have the best readers in the world. Many of them have been with me for years on my blog, The Daily Connoisseur. I just want to say thank you for all of your support and for making Lessons from Madame Chic such a tremendous success. Merci!
