Where are you from?
New York.
Tell us your latest news?
I just released my latest bestselling book, BABY DADDY. It’s a
standalone romantic comedy.
When and why did you begin writing?
I began writing on a whim five years ago. I was unemployed and
needed to pay my mortgage. Over a lunch with a friend, I heard about an
acquaintance who had gotten a book deal. I said to myself, I can do that, and
that night, DEWITCHED: The Untold Story of the Evil Queen was hatched.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I hit publish and sent DEWITCHED into the world
What inspired you to write your first book?
LOL! I needed money! Unemployed and going through a difficult
time with my stepson, I decided I wanted to debunk the evil stepmother myth.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Steamy chick lit.
How did you come up with the title?
For DEWITCHED, the title went with the theme of debunking the
evil stepmother myth. UNFORGETTABLE was inspired by the Nat King Cole/Natalie
Cole song. For my most recent book, the hero is a former sperm donor, so BABY
DADDY was perfect.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
All my books have messages. The message of BABY DADDY is this: Destiny
is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice.
How much of the book is realistic?
99.9%
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own
life?
Yes. BABY DADDY was inspired by a funky sperm magnet that was
given to my twin daughters by the OB-GYN fertility specialist father of one of
their best friends. The opening of THAT MAN was inspired by a real Truth or
Dare game—my stepchildren challenged me to kiss a handsome stranger in a
restaurant and I did! And many of my books are about the entertainment
industry, which I worked in for many years.
What books have most influenced your life most?
I wouldn’t say influenced my life, but rather my writing style.
I was very much influenced by Sophie Kinsella—we write in a similar chic lit
voice, though my books are often written in dual POV and are much steamier.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
I had a writer friend, Aphrodite Hunt, who encouraged me to
write erotic romances.
What book are you reading now?
Just finished the DUKE OF MANHATTAN by Louise Bay. Loved it!
Likely will read CD Reiss’s BOMBSHELL or one of your HOOK-UP CAFÉ novellas
next.
Fifi: Thank you, Nelle. I hope you enjoy your time at my Cafélicious. LOL!
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
Louise Bay is a very talented writer.
What are your current projects?
I am finishing ENDLESS LOVE, the long awaited sequel to my
tearjerker, UNDYING LOVE. I’m also writing two new standalone romcoms and a “surprise”
book, which I plan to publish at the end of July.
Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family
members.
Fellow writers.
Do you see writing as a career?
Yes.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything
in your latest book?
I might tighten the prologue a bit and still might.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I’ve always loved to write, even when I was little.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
If you go to my website, you can see the cover for ENDLESS LOVE
as well as the blurb.
There is also an excerpt from BABY DADDY there.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your
writing?
LOL! Everything! I don’t write 5000 words+ a day like many other
authors. I shoot for 500 and usually average 1500. I’m also a pantster and
write out of sequence, so often my edit is a nightmare—very tedious and
time-consuming.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes
you about their work?
I don’t have a favorite author. I like well-written books and have
a no tolerance policy for poor writing and grammatical errors. I enjoy reading (in
no particular order) Lauren Blakely, Vi Keeland, Louise Bay, Whitney G.,
Alessandra Torre, Meredith Wild, Raine Miller, and CD Reiss. And I’ve a really enjoyed
some of your books too! I also read thrillers and mysteries and especially like
Daniel Silva and James Patterson.
Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
No. Most of my books are set in NYC, where I used to live, and
LA, where I now live. I’ve also included chapters set both in Paris and the
South of France, both which I’ve frequented. I do attend some book signings. In
February 2018, I will be attending RARe18 in London, and have another in
October 2018 in Chicago.
Who designed the covers?
Arijana Karcic/Cover It! Designs
I adore her!
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Always the “middle section” and sometimes the sex scenes.
Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
LOL!! It’s so much work!!! And don’t get me started on the
marketing and promo!
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Read, read, read, especially the kinds of books you want to
write. And don’t be afraid to get down the first sentence. You can always fix
things in editing. Just keep going!
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your
readers?
